I love the effusive, cassis and elderflower aromas in the nose. The green elements of sauvignon blanc have been dialed back, but they’re still in there to give freshness; there is some gooseberry on the palate. Good length and rather polished at the finish, too.

Tor di Lupo Lagrein Riserva 2015    94

This is another 2015 lagrein that’s highly concentrated on the nose with elderberry tart, blackberry essence, bark, tar and earl grey tea. The palate is equally opulent with layers of soft, dark fruit. The fruit/acidity tension does well to highlight the firm tannin backbone, so this never feels cumbersome. Long on the finish. Drink in 2020.

Juvelo Gewürztraminer Passito 2016       93

A lush but surprisingly delicate and animating sweet gewurtz with great balance and a very clean, long finish that pulls you back to the glass for more. Drink now with blue cheese.

Pinot Grigio 2017 93

This is a stunning pinot grigio for the difficult vintage with a ton of ripe melon, candied orange and just a hint of raisin bread. Ripe, concentrated and mouth-filling, but beautifully balanced with a very long finish that’s deep and lively. Drink or hold.

Somereto Chardonnay 2017  92

A floral chardonnay with daffodils, peonies and sliced yellow apples. Medium body, focused acidity and a finish laden with stone fruit. Drink now.

Movado Gewürztraminer 2016         92

Drinking this is like bathing in rose water, but there’s nothing exaggerated about this ripe and elegant gewurtz. Long, silky finish. Drink now.

Gewürztraminer 2017   92

Very rosebud! An elegant and rather supple gewurtz that is properly dry, without any trace of opulence, but good depth at the finish. Drink now.

Anrar Pinot Noir Riserva 2015          92

Shows some lovely complexity on the nose with raspberries, wild strawberries, cloves, pine needles, forest floor, cedar and mahogany. Medium to full body, firm tannins, layers of spicy fruit and a tightly wound finish. Drink in 2020.

Rubeno Lagrein 2017      91

For an early-drinking style of lagrein this shows some class and elegance with fresh herbs, elderberries, lavender and spices. The palate is light to medium in body and blue fruit plays out nicely amid fresh acidity. Drink now.

Gant Merlot Riserva 2015      91

Lots of red plums and redcurrants on the nose of this merlot, as well as cherry liqueur and baking spices. Medium to full body, juicy tannins and a succulent finish. Drink now.

Brimming with apples, pears and citrus, this generous and crisp, medium-bodied pinot bianco is extremely easy to enjoy. Drink now.

Floreado Sauvignon Blanc 2017     90

A more floral sauvignon blanc with white pepper, cherry blossom and loquat. Light to medium body, fresh acidity and a tangy finish. Drink now.

Mit Gründungsjahr 1893 ist die Kellerei Andrian die älteste Kellereigenossenschaft Südtirols.

2008 wurde Andrian von der Kellerei Terlan übernommen, der zweitältesten des Landes.

Andrian liegt am orografisch rechten Ufer der Etsch, Terlan am linken.

Die Reben in Andrian sind mehr nach Osten und Süden ausgerichtet, jene und Terlan schauen nach Süden und Westen.

Während die Lagen in Terlan von Porphyr geprägt sind, dominiert in den Andrianer Rieden Kalkgestein.

Die Verantwortlichen der Kellerei Terlan um Klaus Gasser und Rudi Kofler haben beschlossen, diese Unterschiede noch prägnanter herauszuarbeiten.

Die Weine von Andrian und Terlan werden daher unter getrennte Marken geführt.

Verarbeitet werden sie ausschließlich in Terlan, dafür wurde sogar der Kellere erweitert.

Die historischen KellerRäumlichkeiten in Andrian dienen für die Veranstaltungen und für den Ausbau der schweren Rotweine.

Ein Klassiker ist der Lagrein „Tor di Lupo“, der Ende der 1980-er Jahre einer der ersten Premium-Lagrein des Landes war.

Ausgezeichnet fiel in diesem Jahr der „Merlot Riserva Gant“ aus.

 

Aber auch Blauburgunder, Sauvignon Blanc und Gewürztraminer fühlen sich in den Andrianer Lagen sehr wohl.

Gewürztraminer Passito Juvelo 2016 - 94

Packaged in a 375-milliliter bottle, the 2016 Alto Adige Gewürztraminer Passito Juvelo is a powerful dessert wine, but it also shows a delicate side that comes through loud and clear. The bouquet exhibits luscious honey, candied almond, dried apricot and fragrant jasmine. The mouthfeel is rich, smooth and super silky. This dessert wine is fermented and aged (for 11 months) in barrique. Only 1,900 bottles will be released.

Andrius Sauvignon Blanc 2016 - 93+

The 2016 Alto Adige Sauvignon Blanc Andrius is a spectacular wine that takes that characteristic intensity of the grape and pushes the boundaries even further. The bouquet is layered and rich with tropical and passion fruits, all followed by tangy citrus and lemon mousse. As the wine warms in the glass, it shows round notes of sweet honey, saffron and toasted almond. Some 6,000 bottles of Andrius were made in this vintage. The wine is fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel, and it ages on the fine lees for five months.

Gant Merlot Riserva 2015 - 93

The 2015 Alto Adige Merlot Riserva Gant is a wine of enormous beauty and depth. It opens to dark, succulent and enriched layers of dark cherry, blackcurrant, spice, savory tobacco and leather. The wine rises from the glass with beautiful intensity and proud, immediate aromas that wrap thickly over the senses. The wine's characteristic softness —that pure essence of Merlot, for lack of a better term—is stunning and delicious. This wine should hold steady over the next 10 years. Only 9,000 bottles were produced.

Tor di Lupo Lagrein Riserva 2015 - 92

My favorite Lagrein pairings include my family's roast whole chicken recipe with potatoes and onions. This native grape from Northern Italy is especially well matched to the bold, simple and genuine flavors of home cooking. Cantina Andriano has created an excellent expression in this warm vintage. The 2015 Alto Adige Lagrein Riserva Tor di Lupo is one of the best Lagrein-based wines on the market today. Dark cherry and black fruit rise with seamless and broad-reaching intensity. The tannins are soft and sweet. The wine fans far and wide over the palate. Some 18,000 bottles were made.

Anrar Pinot Noir Riserva 2015 - 91+

The 2015 Alto Adige Pinot Noir Riserva Anrar shows density and power with a ripe and concentrated quality of fruit. The wine opens to dark color saturation and bold layers of blackcurrant, dried cherry and rose petal. The wine wraps thickly over the palate with broader and thicker textural richness than you usually get from a cool climate, mountain Pinot Nero. The finish shows points of surprising softness and succulence that you only get with this grape in the warmer vintages such as 2015. Bottle production is limited to just 4,000 units.
